Excellent all round really, there honestly wasn't anything to fault about the place and I was really impressed. Booked a table for 5 people on a Thursday evening, I was surprised how busy it actually was. We sat in the waiting area whilst everyone turned up and then were shown to out pre-prepared table and served drinks. Staff were polite and were soon taking our order. I went for poppadum, a chicken tikka starter and chicken tikka biryani for main, followed by a coffee. The food was delicious, probably the best tasting food of any Indian restaurant I've been to and everyone was of the same opinion. 5 different people, 5 different dishes, 5 different opinions, 5 overall very happy customers. After the meal we were served with hot wipes and then provided with the bill. The only negative I can possibly think of is that unlike some other Indian restaurants, we weren't offered a complementary 'shot' at the end, but that's being very picky.

If you're looking for a decent curry in the Bury area then look no further - Jewel in the Crown is where you need to go. Delicious food, excellent service, and great value for money - suitable for large groups or casual/intimate dining. You are usually greeted with numerous smiling faces as you walk into the bar / waiting area which instantly makes you feel welcome - something that is often missing in restaurants these days. Unfortunately, if you do have to wait for a table (quite likely) the seating area is tiny, so I would suggest booking in advance, especially on the weekends as it's usually jam packed! Located in the town centre, the restaurant is just a 5 minute walk from Bury Interchange, or a 2 minute taxi if it's raining (again, quite likely!), so now you know where it is get booking a table!

I went here not so long ago, and bar a place I used to go to when I was little called the Forts of India (I love indian food), it is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The service is quick, consistent and friendly. The staff are very pleasant, always smiling, and they really can't do enough for you. I went with my Mum, and when we ordered our curries came about 20 minutes after, steaming. The atmosphere is lovely, with soft Indian music playing low in the background and the decor is cosy and old-worldy. You instantly feel relaxed and comfortable. The food. Well where do I start? Absolutely bloody delicious. Really authentic and flavoursome. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and I have never tasted a better Masala in my life (bar the Forts of India, which by the way is in Whitefield and I very strongly reccomend). It had just the right amount of spice and sweetness, it was creamy- but not sickly, and they wasn't stingy with the meat either, like most restaurants and takeaways are. I really enjoyed my meal at Jewel In the Crown, if you're out in Bury and fancy a bite to eat, skip the Mac Ds, and pop into here, it isn't too expensive either. :')

I'm a regular at this Indian restaurant. I'll start with the place itself and then go on to the food. When you enter, you are in a waiting area with couches and tables and a large well-stocked bar (tip: make a reservation at weekends because it gets VERY busy). Everything looks clean and fairly modern - nice, but not chic or upmarket. The far right wall is covered with mirrors, which gives the place the appearance of being much larger than it actually is, although it can accommodate large parties with ease. The staff are, without exception, ultra-friendly, helpful and polite, the food always arrives quickly and at the conclusion you are offered a free complimentary drink - I could not fault the service, there's never a struggle even on busy nights to get the attention of a waiter. The atmosphere is lively but at the same time you feel relaxed - Indian music is always playing and there's a Bollywood film showing on a screen. As for the food... honestly, I have been to many Indians but these guys are true masters of Indian cooking, and this is what makes the place special. The onion bhajis - which are usually an unremarkable starter - are divine, succulent, perfectly flavoured... you'll find yourself talking about them the next day. My girlfriend wanted to have more of them and skip the main! Then there's the gorgeous chicken chat, the perfectly made madras... English people are used to Indian food more than any other, but the food here is in a different league, full of flavour and interest and variety, it's like a new experience. It's like thinking you know football from watching Accringtion Stanley reserves and then going to see Man U vs Barcelona. The danger here is yielding to temptation, overeating and feeling bloated for the next couple of hours... the portions are generous, and as the starters are so delicious you'll order more than one not leaving much room for the main. As usual for Indian restaurants, there's a good variety of vegetarian options on offer. The prices on the menu are reasonable, a meal for two with starters and wine will set you back £10 less than other local restaurants. So why not five stars? If the rating was for the food and service, yes, but I think there is room for improvement with the rather ordinary decor, and the toilets are not quite up to scratch for a good restaurant - they're clean, but more like pub toilets and not of the perfumed, sparkling, soft-music-playing type elsewhere. There isn't really a dress code, but 99% dress smartly. Highly recommended, best Indian food I know of in the Bury and Manchester area.
